Hi everyone!! My name is Ashwini Niranjanan and I’m a 4th year in the Health Information Science program, graduating in Spring 2027. My parents immigrated from Sri Lanka and I was born and raised in Victoria, B.C.

I speak both English and French because I was enrolled in French Immersion starting at age five. Fun fact: I can understand Tamil but can’t really speak it! Growing up, my parents spoke Tamil to each other and to me, so I naturally picked up words and learned to understand the language over time.

Some of my favourite classes in my degree so far have been Statistics and Human Aspects of Health Information Systems. I’ve always enjoyed math and I’m very interested in designing systems that work in ways that align with the human brain. Outside of school, I really enjoy reading, cooking, playing soccer, and travelling. This year, I went to Mexico and learned how to make some authentic local dishes. Such an amazing experience!

I am taking this class because I want to learn more about how multimedia can improve the way people learn and understand information.
